Hard To Pull Off.... ?

DVF
So two very big trends this spring are the cape blouse and the jumpsuit. But unfortunately, the site of either of these two styles usually inspire a less than enthusiastic anticipation from hopeful fashion followers, simply due to the ubiquitous unflattering rep that follows.  I just hate, hate, hate to let my body suffer for fashion. You know when you see those girls so devout they simply can't give up even the most unrealistic trends... (sheer white anyone?) Well, fortunately for both of these trends there are quite a few cuts that will still leave you looking cute. Check out:

Summer Sunnies

Despite the last few cold days, I am still hopefully anticipating the return of the nice weather. I love those days of a lazy sundress... I can't take the cold weather! Probably one of my favorite things about the warm weather is the sun... and what goes with sun better than a cute pair of sunnies- sunglasses, that is. Early morning usually calls for a great big pair, i mean everyone has been guilty of relying on a big pair to the horrific under the eye bags that only come from a night of a little too much fun.

Rustic Appeal, the Adoration for Tassels and a Pop of Color

Pink. It makes our heart flutters and seemingly unzips our wallets all at the sight of this enchanting shade of color. This season pink is super hot.... no pun intended.
Jill Stuart $845
Pierre Hardy $575
Kate Spade Jillian Striped Dress
Tassel Earrings were everywhere this february and are hitting retail stores left and right. Try something classy like these Oscar de la Renta earrings for a night out or something with tribal influence for a more casual everyday look.

Rustic orange is always a very popular shade this spring. Try it on shorts, tapered pants or even a dress. Think about mixing it with a sunny yellow to brighten yourself up!

The Icon

So if you turned on a television since yesterday, I am sure you have become of aware of the death of Elizabeth Taylor. At 79 years old she was a spunky old woman, but surely in her youth she was not only a beauty but a fashion icon. She lived "old-school hollywood glamour" and her attire certainly embodies the 50s trends runways attempt to mimic today. The photographs of her and her sense of style seem to almost transport us in a time warp, a place where 1950 is real and the silk scarf is everywhere.

A Little Inspiration

Pictures speak a thousand words, after all....

Spring has Sprung...

So, it's time to greet the new weather with some new attire. And everyone likes to dress to impress, so lets show up mother nature. The big trends this season are....
1) Nude Colors- It sounds super scandalous, but the runways were barely-there in this pretty color. PS, try it on your heels to give your legs an elongated look. The key is finding the right color to match your skin tone.
2) Color Block- Seems like a flash back from a few seasons ago (spring 2008 ring a bell anyone?) but color block has almost every retail store. Try it on a crop top like these from Urban Outfitters...

3. Florals- What is more reminiscent of spring then flowers? This season florals could be seen everywhere from rompers to dresses to cardigans to shorts...

 4. Classic 50's Style- The runways seemed to be in a time warp this february. We easily could have been in 1950 with the mid-length skirts (think pleated or flare) , "fit and flare" 50's silhouette, the quintessential cardigan, the peter-pan color, and pussy-bow blouses. Looking for inspiration? Check out Bridget Bardot or Audrey Hepburn! Or you can always google the classy character of Kristin Davis as Charlotte York in Sex and The City...

5. Minimalism- We'll keep it simple, like this trend.

Try rocking all white like in this Band Of Outfitters Ensemble
5. Seventies are all the rage in this post modern era. Bell-bottoms aka wide-leg trousers are all over. Try a floppy hat for super sunny days, and don't forget about flowy lace.
6. Maxi- Max it out with the super long hem of a maxi dress. Stick with a simple black for a casual day, or a pretty floral. Feeling extra casual? Try a t-shirt maxi dress- perfect for lounging around.
7. Platforms- Stop thinking about those Steve Madden Black Platform Sandals that were all the rage on moms everywhere in the 90s. Think wooden and clog designs.
8. Ladylike Anything. Think rosy pink, girly pumps and small satchels. Don't forget the bows...

Mwah xoxoxo!
